    Keynote Speaker - Dr. Sukhbir Sony Singh

    MD, FRCSC, FACOG

    Dr. Sukhbir (Sony) Singh is Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa and Head of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care at The Ottawa Hospital. He is an Associate Scientist and the Dr. Elaine Jolly Research Chair in Gynecologic Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

    Upon completion of his medical training at the University of Western Ontario (MD 2000, FRCSC 2005), he completed fellowships in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the University of Toronto (2005-2006) and the University of Sydney, Australia (2006-2007).

    Dr. Singh leads the Ottawa Minimally Invasive Gynecology Research Group which focuses on the diagnosis, management and surgical approach to endometriosis and uterine fibroids. He has given over 400 presentations worldwide, delivered 50 formal courses and has over 150 publications to date.

  • Dr. Shaista Riaz,

    Dr. Shaista Riaz,

    MBBS,FCPS, FRCPC, FRCR

    Dr. Shaista Riaz completed her medical school and basic radiology residency in Pakistan. Her areas of clinical expertise include breast imaging (mammography, MRI, ultrasound) and breast biopsies, needle localizations and body imaging. She is affiliated with Breast screening and Assessment Service, Ontario, and received her Mammography Accreditation Program (MAP) certification in 2022. She has a significant national profile in radiology education, has been involved in multiple national education conferences and tumor board rounds, participated in clinical research projects, published research papers and is an active mentor for learners considering careers in radiology.

    Her fellowships include:

    · Cross sectional fellowship from Shifa international hospital Islamabad 2013-2014

    · Neuroradiology and ENT fellowship from McGill university 2018-2019

    · Cross sectional fellowship from McMasters university Hamilton 2019-2020

    · Breast fellowship from Mcgill 2020-2021

    Since 2021 Dr. Riaz is the site chief and staff radiologist in the radiology department at Health Sciences North as well as an assistant professor at NOSM University.

  • Dr. Roula Toubassy

    Dr. Roula Toubassy

    With over a decade of experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Roula Toubassy is a dedicated advocate for women’s health and wellness.

    Born and raised in the beautiful country of Lebanon, she earned her medical degree and four years of residency at The Lebanese University, prior to completing her residency in OB/GYN at the University of Ottawa. She has since made Sudbury her home and is proud to serve her new northern community.

    In addition to practice in Sudbury, Dr. Toubassy participates in the Visiting Specialists Program at Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre. She is also an affiliate at NOSM and enjoys working with medical learners.

  • Dr. Jennifer Jocko

    Dr. Jennifer Jocko

    Dr. Jennifer Jocko is Algonquin from Pikwakanagan First Nation. She practices community Ob/Gyn at NEO Women's Health Network. Dr. Jocko successfully survived a 3 year term as Chief of Ob/Gyn at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. She also shares her time monthly on Manitoulin Island providing outreach Ob\Gyn services in Little Current, Ontario and at Wikwemikong Unceded Territory's Health Centre. As well at a weekly outreach clinic in downtown Sudbury, at an Indigenous Alliance centre Shkagamik-kwe. And lastly, she is the medical director of North Eastern Ontario's only fertility clinic - NEO Fertility which she co-owns with her work wife/business partner Karen Splinter.

    Dr. Karen Splinter

    Dr. Karen Splinter completed an undergraduate degree with honours in Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University in 2003. She then went on to study at the University of Ottawa, earning her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2007. After that she moved out east to complete her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Memorial University. She concurrently completed her Masters in Clinical Epidemiology through Memorial University.

    In 2012 Dr. Splinter joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. She is an Associate Professor at NOSM University and was the Section Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2013 to 2021. She is also the Clinical Lead, Northeast Ontario, for the Cervical Cancer Screening program since 2021.

    It has been her passion to help expand the scope of care for women in Northeastern Ontario, with advancing surgical techniques and services for Women’s Health. She has research interests in fibroids, endometriosis, vaccines, Mullerian anomalies and contraception.

    Dr Splinter lives with her family in Sudbury. She enjoys the beautiful city of lakes, hiking and cross-country skiing if there is snow.
