Welcome to the 2023 Northern Health Research Conference!
NOSM University will hold the 18th annual Northern Health Research Conference (NHRC) from Thursday June 1 to Friday June 2, 2023. The conference will be held in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and will be available in a hybrid format, with participants having the option to attend in-person or online.
This conference demonstrates NOSM University’s ongoing commitment to health care and education to the people of Northern Ontario.
The NHRC continues to explore research activities within Northern Ontario arising from community-based activities. It will highlight projects underway from students, residents, and community-based researchers. The conference provides opportunities for collaboration and community networking and continues to be a significant force in the development of a culture of research activity in our area and beyond.
NHRC 2023 will feature a wide variety of oral and poster presentations related to NOSM University's Research Priorities which can be explored here.
Keynote Speaker
We are pleased to announce Dr. Hazem Elmansy as the Keynote Speaker. Dr. Elmansy is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Fellowship Program with NOSM University. Dr. Elmansy's keynote address is titled 'Thunder Bay's New Urology Research Era: Moving from Bench to Bedside'.

Hazem Elmansy, MD

Dr. Hazem Elmansy is an Associate Professor, Program Director of the Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Fellowship program, and Medical Lead of Surgical Research at NOSM University.
He completed his Urology residency at McGill University and has training in endourology, including Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy for complex stone management, laser surgery for the prostate and metabolic work-up to prevent stone disease recurrence.
Dr. Elmansy is NOSM U’s representative for the Canadian Association of Chairs of Surgical Research, a recipient of four Northern Ontario Academic Medicine Association (NOAMA) grants, and a Master of Medical Sciences program committee member.
In October 2017, Dr. Elmansy successfully performed the first Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) procedure in Ontario. He has a strong passion for research and is a co-author of the updated Canadian Urological Association (CUA) guidelines for ureteric stones and male lower urinary tract symptoms/benign prostatic hyperplasia.
His research contributions were recognized and awarded at the Canadian and American Urological Association annual conferences.
