Topic: Palliative Care Literature Review

Speakers: Claire Poulin, Kate Tucker & Tess Dufour; NOSM U Learners and members of the PC Interest Group
This session will provide an insightful review of recent literature on three critical topics in palliative care, aimed at improving care for underserved and marginalized populations, as well as fostering community-driven capacity-building initiatives. The session will feature discussions on the latest research, evidence-based practices, and innovative approaches in the following areas:
- Palliative Care for Homeless and Vulnerably Housed People.
- Long-Term Oxygen Therapy for Severe Hypoxemia.
- Co-Designed Education Initiative to Strengthen Palliative Care Capacity in First Nation Communities.
By reviewing the latest literature in these areas, this session will offer valuable insights into providing equitable, culturally competent, and compassionate care to diverse and vulnerable populations, while exploring the impact of innovative, community-based initiatives in strengthening palliative care delivery.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
1. Discuss recent Palliative Care literature that challenges trends in practice
2. Summarize practice changes supported by evidence
3. Identify the applicability of changes to rural and northern communities
