"Palliative Care is Everyone's Business"

We are a subcommittee of the NOSM CEPD Unit providing Palliative Care Education for North East Ontario.  Our target audience includes physicians, residents, learners, RNs, NPs, other health care providers and Palliative Care educators offering compassionate, patient centered Palliative Care in the Northeast, however since we are virtual we invite participants from all across Northern Ontario to join.

We continuously gather information from various sources to gauge the needs of our target audience, which includes surveys and evaluation responses, but also unperceived needs such as provincial/federal guidelines, emerging trends, population health data, best practice guidelines and literature/research..

If you have a topic or speaker you would like to suggest please let us know!

Types of Sessions

The SPC has created a program that delivers both didactic educational sessions and follow up clinical rounds sessions that offers participants multiple opportunities to interact, discuss and ask case related questions.

Education Sessions take place on the first Thursday of each month and are between 1 and 2 hours in length. Hosted virtually on the WebEx platform, we welcome expert speakers that specialize in particular areas of Palliative Care in Northern Ontario, who will focus on an identified need/topic, addressing the learning objectives created by the SPC.

Sessions are moderated by committee members, and you are encouraged to bring your topic related questions to ask our speakers.  There may also be an opportunity to attend a case based clinical rounds session later in the month! *See Clinical Rounds for more info.

Education sessions are recorded for future viewing and can be found in our Education Series Archive section.  Additionally, if you missed the live session, the three most recent sessions are eligible for Mainpro+ credit.

You can register for all our Education Sessions now on the Registration Page

If you have a topic suggestion or a speaker suggestion please let us know!

Clinical Rounds take place on the third Thursday of the month and are one hour in length.  Hosted virtually on the WebEx platform, this session is a follow up to the education session held earlier in the month and allows participants an opportunity to bring case related questions to discuss in a more clinical format.

Rounds sessions will not be recorded in order to provide a more candid environment for open discussion.  There will typically be a case presented followed by Q&A and discussion and a wrap up of the case.  You are encouraged to participate even if you were not able to attend the education session, as you are able to watch a recording of the education session on our Education Series Archives page prior to the Rounds session.

Rounds Learning Objectives
1. Identify skills to improve evidence-based medicine for clinical application in a palliative approach to care amongst health care providers in Northern Ontario
2. Improve collaboration in the delivery of a palliative approach to care amongst interprofessional healthcare teams across Northern Ontario
