The Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health is an academic health center driven by an integrated healthcare delivery system, leveraging the existing competencies and resources of its members to create a singular commingling of academics and healthcare practice that no one organization can match. Grounded in a cooperative and applied outlook, fostering collaboration and innovation, this vibrant clinical environment is our laboratory to deliver new approaches and solutions not yet developed in healthcare education, delivery, access and affordability that will help people live healthier and better lives across the state and beyond.
The Health Sciences Center (HSC) aligns South Carolina’s two largest research universities and most prominent liberal arts university with one of the largest health systems in the Southeast. Rather than duplicate costly infrastructure, the HSC leverages the existing competencies and resources of its members for the greater good. All partners contribute resources to the Health Sciences Center, including physical space, employees (full and partial positions), financing and more.
Education, research and innovation are the core areas of expertise the Health Sciences Center brings together to foster growth and change. Undergraduate, graduate, CME and even community education initiatives, translational research making a clinical difference, and partnerships with innovators are the routes of change at the Health Sciences Center.

Prisma Health and others in the state share an overall goal: collectively improve the health status of South Carolina patients and communities. Prisma Health supplies the clinical environment for education and research, the Office of Innovation and the Division of research.
