3 parallel sessionsHosted by Dr. Cameron Riopelle. This interactive workshop teaches how to use the free R / RStudio environment to construct a variety of data visualizations that will assist in the communication of scientific research, with example datasets drawn from marine science research. Participants are expected to bring their own laptop with both R and RStudio pre-installed. Both programs can be installed by following instructions at https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/. Prior knowledge of R is not required but recommended*. *If you are a new user and with to attend, please do the first six episodes of Software Carpentry's free "R for Reproducible Scientific Analysis" (https://swcarpentry.github.io/r-novice-gapminder/) in advance.

This panel is to serve as a discussion to better understand and position the economic impact of coral reef conservation efforts to strengthen policy and public support as a smart investment. By highlighting the ecological value of healthy reefs in measurable economic benefits like jobs, tourism revenue, and coastal infrastructure protection, we can help open new funding avenues and collaborations across different sectors. It is critical to better communicate this impact to unify key stakeholders who support nature-based solutions.
