Pre-Conference Field Trip
There is no additional fee to partake in the field trip.
On Friday, March 22nd from 1- 4 pm the UPEI Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCA), St. Peter’s Bay is hosting a field trip for Science Atlantic Environment conference participants.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the School of Climate Change and Adaptation, research projects, and receive a tour of the facility including a presentation from the UPEI drone pilots on the fleet of drones and their uses.
Following the research presentation, Mi'kmaq Elder Francis Jadis will lead a demonstration on traditional basket weaving and discuss the climate threat to black ash trees. Participants will have the opportunity to assist with the basket weaving during the demonstration.
Alexis Bulman, the Artistic Director at the UPEI CCCA, will then lead participants in a felted phenology workshop. Felted phenology is a hands-on, tactile workshop that invites participants to ponder phenology, and celebrate the seasons. As participants create thematic felt cut-outs and add them to the larger tapestries, a picture will begin to form depicting how life (in all its forms) is changing here.
