IMPORTANT INFORMATION


The 2026 Science Atlantic Environment Conference (SAEC) is a great venue to showcase your environmental-themed research (e.g. social science/policy, environmental science/ecology, or other knowledge systems) gain insights into other's work, and engage with experts in the Atlantic provinces. All students (BA, BSc, BASc, and graduate) and faculty interested in environmental research are welcome. Students are encouraged to present their research and share their work with peers in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. SAEC offers a unique opportunity to interact, network, and contribute to the vibrant environmental research community in Atlantic Canada.


Acadia University's Department of Earth and Environmental Science (https://ees.acadiau.ca/home.html) is excited to host SAEC 2026!  

WHEN AND WHERE?
SAEC 2026 will occur between Friday March 13 (evening) and Sunday March 15 (afternoon) at the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre at Acadia University, Wolfville, NS.

Check-in, lite snacks, and an informal meet and greet will occur Friday 6-9 PM in the K.C. Irving Centre Garden Room.

Oral presentations (15 min + 5 min for questions) and poster presentations will be held in the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre.

The Saturday night banquet location will be held at Fountain Commons, Acadia University.

A campus map and schedule can both be found in the Important Documents section at the top of this page. Campus parking is available by purchasing a permit through the HOTSPOT app. There are several lots to choose from (e.g. Athletics Center Lot).

REGISTRATION
Registration is $150 for students (undergraduate and graduate) and $175 for faculty members. Registration is open until February 25.

ACCOMMODATIONS
We recommend the following venue:

Old Orchard Inn

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION 
Submission is open until February 25, 2026. Please register before you submit your abstract (Registration Closes February 25, 2026). Submission requirements are listed on the Submission Page. Abstracts, posters, and presentations (15 min + 5 min for questions) will be accepted in French or English. 

CAMPUS PARKING
Acadia University offers metered parking on Crowell Drive, free parking east of Crowell Tower and free street parking on the lower end of Westwood Avenue. Metered parking can be paid with coin, or through the HotSpot App. Daily parking permits for non-metered spaces on campus can be purchased through "tap and go" kiosks in the Athletic Complex (main entry), ASU (Axe Lounge entry), and Beveridge Arts Centre lower floor entry. Keynote Speaker

Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo
Provost and Vice-President Academic at Acadia University

Before joining Acadia, Ashlee was the Founding Vice-Provost of the Labrador Campus and the Founding Dean of the School of the Arctic and Subarctic Studies at Memorial University, where she spent 8 years working with Indigenous communities, all levels of government, and university leadership to design and launch an Indigenous-led campus, all new academic programming, and new governance structures.

As a researcher, Dr. Cunsolo has been working for almost 20 years on community-based and community-led climate change and health research in the North and internationally. A former Canada Research Chair (Tier II) and an inaugural member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists (of which she is now Member Emeritus), Ashlee is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on climate change, mental health, and ecological grief, particularly in Labrador and across the North. She has served on multiple national and international advisory boards and task forces, including serving as the Co-Chair of the Canadian Council of Academies Future of Arctic Research report, an elected member of the Federal Task Force on Northern Post-Secondary Education, a contributing author to two chapters of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report, a Lead Author on Chapters in the Natural Resources Canada and the Health Canada Climate Change Assessment Reports, and a Commissioner for the Lancet Arctic Health Commission.

Panel Event (Sunday): Two-Eyed Seeing in Environmental Careers

Panelists will share their experiences integrating Two-Eyed Seeing (Etuaptmumk) in their environmental careers and research. Each panelist will be invited to share 3-5 slides on their work to give photos for context. There will be a series of structured questions asked by the host followed by questions from the audience. Panelist bios will be shared at a later date.
