Workshop 1: Ground-based lidar for precision forestry and national forest inventories

This workshop explores various three-dimensional point clouds from ground-based LiDAR systems - terrestrial, handheld, and low-cost sensors including iPhone-based tools - for conducting precision and national forest inventory plots. Participants will compare data quality across sensors and experiment with processing tools such as 3DFIN, 3DFoS, FSCT, and similar solutions to assess their effectiveness in extracting tree metrics. Presented by Dr Martin Mokros University College, London

Workshop 2: The Interagency Ecosystem Lidar Monitoring Program - Automated TLS Forestry and Structural Ecology Processing and Modeling

The IntELiMon program streamlines forest monitoring using terrestrial LiDAR, enabling rapid plot assessments and next-day data delivery. This workshop introduces its methods and tools to extract structural variables for forestry, ecology and fuel modelling. The session will invite participants to explore key forest metrics and share feedback to enhance the system’s usability and integration. Presented by Dr Scott Pokswinski New Mexico Consortium

Workshop 3: ALS processing for forest inventory using LAStools and lidR

This workshop explores how to integrate LAStools and the lidR package for efficient forest inventory production. Participants will learn to access and process lidar files, select regions of interest, and generate key products like DTMs and CHMs. The course covers workflows combining LAStools for tiling, denoising, and ground classification with lidR for forest attribute modeling using area-based and individual tree approaches. Attendees will also work with LAS catalogs, command-line tools, and custom lidR functions for advanced analysis. Presented by Liam Irwin University of British Columbia

Workshop 4: https://github.com/MapsHD/HDMapping - opensource project for large-scale 3D mapping: precise forestry use case

This workshop introduces an open-source solution for large-scale 3D forest mapping using a lightweight handheld LiDAR system. Participants will learn how to process terrestrial LiDAR data, collected from open source lidar systems, to generate detailed point clouds and explore tools like SLAM, LiDAR odometry, and segmentation for precise forestry applications. Workshop 5: Automating Forest Plotting with RIEGL VZ-600i: Static & Kinematic LiDAR for Efficient Forestry Applications

This session will present the capabilities of the RIEGL VZ-600i, a versatile LiDAR scanner operating in both static and kinematic modes. This workshop will demonstrate how advanced LiDAR enables rapid, millimeter-accurate measurements of DBH and canopy structure, streamlining forest data collection and long-term monitoring. Workshop 6: Introducing web-based data open storage, data access and AI-based analysis with 3dtrees.earth & deadtrees.earth

Participants will be introduced to two open-access platforms designed for large-scale forest monitoring using community-sourced 2D and 3D forest data and artificial intelligence to extract key forestry attributes. The workshop includes hands-on activities such as uploading forest data, using web-based tools for analysis, and contributing to dataset development through annotation.
