2025 American Folklore Society Annual Meeting Call For Proposals Key Information and Updates
Submitters must complete a Proposal Registration (no fee) in order to submit a proposal. Payment to register will be required once acceptance is communicated.
Updated Information for those submitting in Pre-Organized Sessions
We are aware of an issue in email confirmation sent to participants on a pre-organized panel. It indicates that the recipient has been added to the Chair’s Paper title, rather than the Chair’s session title. Chairs may want to communicate with their session presenters the Session Title, as it will not appear in the welcome email they receive. Pre-organized Session Titles and Paper Titles will be confirmed with Chairs ahead of review.
Submission Form
We are aware that there could be proposal types that are not generating the proper submission forms: this most often results in the system asking for additional information, beyond that noted on the proposal types page. If the form is asking you for information not indicated on the AFS Proposal Types page and it provides a dialog box, add a note in the box, e.g., not required for a [type of presentation] . Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are not sure how to manage the form.
Thanks for your patience. If any of these issues are impacting your ability to meet the CFP deadline of April 1, your communication with us will ensure your proposal is submitted to the review committee.
Proposal Details:
The 2025 AFS Annual Meeting will be held October 18-21, 2025, featuring a number of live streamed sessions and events. We will accept individual presentation proposals to be given in person in Atlanta or virtually as part of a fully virtual program November 12-14, 2025.
All accepted presenters will be scheduled to participate in ONLY ONE presentation. Please submit only one Presentation Proposal through this form. See the Annual Meeting Policies for details.
Note: if you are proposing to chair a paper panel, this form allows you to make a single submission for your roles as both chair and an individual presenter in the panel for which you are chair.
Additionally, AFS requests that all special events, business meetings, section meetings, and excursion proposals be submitted through this same process. These submissions do not count against the "ONLY ONE" presentation noted above.
You can submit an incomplete proposal and come back to edit until the deadline, but you will need to fill in the required fields to save your draft in the system.
For more information on submitting a proposal, visit the AFS website. The proposal window is open through April 1, 2025.
Feel free to contact us at annualmeeting@afsnet.org to suggest a format, discuss your proposal idea, receive support with your submission, or discuss accessibility needs.
