Professor Alexes Harris, Presidential Term Professor
Department of Sociology, University of Washington
Alexes Harris, Ph.D., is the Presidential Term Professor and Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington. Dr. Harris’ work has spanned the criminal legal system, including juvenile, case processing outcomes, and monetary sanctions. Her research fundamentally centers on issues of inequality, poverty and race in United States’ legal systems.
Elizabeth Castro, Doctoral Candidate in Language, Literacy & Culture
School of Education, University of California, Davis
Elizabeth Castro is a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Davis in the School of Education with an emphasis in Language, Literacy, and Culture. She uses ethnographic methods to better understand the everyday language and literacy practices of bi/multilingual Latinx communities in school and classrooms.
Tracie D. Hall, Professor of Practice & Distinguished Practitioner in Residence
Information School, University of Washington
Distinguished Practitioner in Residence Tracie D. Hall is the former Executive Director of the American Library Association and the first Black woman to helm that organization in its nearly 150-year history. Hall’s work in advancing early and adult literacy, advocating for library and educational services for people who are incarcerated, and protecting intellectual freedom have earned her the F.D. Roosevelt Medal for Freedom of Speech and a spot on TIME Magazine's list of 100 most influential people.
