ABC 2024 GROUND TRANSPORTATION PASSENGER INFO

UBC will charter a 45 passenger motor coach bus to take UBC trainees and staff to Silver Star Mountain.

1. Pack water and snacks for the bus trip. The bus trip is >5 hours. You will have opportunity to buy food at pit stops. We suggest bringing food in a backpack on board the bus.

2. Pack dress for VERY cold temperatures- Silver Star is regularly -20 “C and colder. You will need boots, coat, hats, gloves.

3. You may bring your skis, snowboards, snow shoes, skates and other gear you need to enjoy the mountain resort. Suitcases and skis/snowboards equipment can be accommodated in the bus storage.

4. There is no Wi-Fi on the bus. Download content as cell service is not great over the mountain pass.

5. Bring money to buy your lunches/snacks at pit stops (options usually Subway, Tim Hortons and fast food outlets)

6. All passengers are asked to contribute $5 towards a tip envelope for the driver (Suggest $5 each way to and from Silver Star = $10 cash)

7. For UBC campus departing passengers: the Old Barn's coffee shop does not open until 8 am. The Old Barn Community Centre opens at 7 am. You may go inside the community centre to wait for bus and they have public washrooms.

8. For BC Children’s departing passengers- gather inside by the main building #18 entrance and check in with a group leader.

9. Have fun! This meeting is a great opportunity to meet new trainees and get outside and enjoy winter in Canada!

07:30 Pick up Location #1 UBC Vancouver Campus = Old Barn Community Centre at 6308 Thunderbird Avenue.

Check in with UBC bus host before you board the bus. Load gear onto lower portion of bus.

07:45-08:00 Drive to BC Children’s Hospital for next passenger pick up

08:00 Pick Up Location #2 BC Children’s Hospital 938 West 28^th

Check in with UBC bus host at the main entrance of Building #18 before boarding the bus.

08:15-15:00 Vancouver > stops for coffee/leg/bathroom breaks enroute > Silver Star Mountain

RETURN: FRIDAY MARCH 1

09:30-17:00 Silver Star- Vancouver > coffee/leg breaks enroute > BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute >UBC Vancouver campus

09:00 Check in with bus hosts at Silver Star drop off location

~09:30 Bus loads and departs from the main entrance of the village- same place it drops off.

~16:30 ETA at BC Children’s Hospital (weather and traffic dependent)

~17:00 ETA at UBC Vancouver campus
