Well-Being at the ANGEL Conference

We expect all discussions at the conference to adhere to high academic standards and to be conducted in a respectful manner, using academic freedom responsibly. Our goal is to embody the principles of Global Education and global social justice in our conference.

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants, and so have contracted an Awareness Team staffed by professionals from Act Aware, who provide confidential, non-judgmental assistance to anyone who feels overwhelmed, or experiences discrimination.

Participation options

There is a space for many different kinds of participation at this event. Please explore the details of each participation option below.

Please note that this is going to be a face-to-face event, with only the plenary keynote sessions broadcast online. The language of the conference will be English.

Paper presentations are grouped into themed Paper Sessions that contain 4 (or sometimes 5) short presentations.

We ask that paper presentations are presented by a single lead presenter, though co-authors are welcome to register interest as non-presenting participants.

All presenters will have a 15 minute slot, plus around 5 minutes of Q&A.

Presenters will have access to a big screen and a PC to load their presentation files, which you should bring with you on a USB stick, preferably using MS Office format files.

We encourage presenters to link their work to the main focus and themes of the conference, as seen on the home page, wherever possible.

Symposiums bring together a series of short papers/presentations from different authors, maximum of 4, that focus on one of the main topics of the conference. Maximum duration: 90 minutes. They may address these topics through:

· Creating visions and innovative solutions

· Exploration of current debates in Global Education and Learning

· Presentation of empirical evidence and/or case studies on Global Education

· Following up the implementation of the Dublin Declaration

· Exploring partnerships between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers

· Analysing youth engagement and relationship between learning and agency

· Exploring international learning partnerships

· Developing cultures of decolonisation

· Exchange and in-depth analysis of good practices

Workshops are interactive sessions where the participants are expected to play an active role either in hands-on activities, discussions, sharing research ideas or good practices in Global education in various educational settings. The workshops might also explore alternative methodologies for reflexion, learning or working together in Global education. Maximum duration: 90 minutes

The workshops will focus on the main themes of the conference and may address the following topics:

· Strategies for integrating Global Education principles, such as human rights, sustainable development, and social justice, into various educational settings

· Innovative pedagogic approaches, curriculum or evaluation tools

· Putting the Dublin Declaration into practice

· Experiences of Partnerships between educational bodies and civil society organisations

· Sharing new ideas for research

· Exchanging and reflecting about good practices

Call for Proposals

ANGEL issued a call for proposals, from academics, policymakers, and practitioners, for a wide range of sessions, including paper presentation sessions, symposia and workshops at this exciting event, with a deadline of 15 January.

We received an overwhelming response, with a 40% increase in proposals compared to our last biennial event at UNESCO in 2023.

Each submission was assessed by multiple members of an international selection committee comprised of members of the ANGEL Advisory Board, and representatives of the event partner organisations.

All accepted proposals demonstrate a connection or relevance to the event’s stated ‘Main Focus’ and Themes, as outlined on the homepage, and with Global Education and Learning, as defined in the European Declaration on Global Education in to 2050 ('Dublin Declaration').

We particularly encouraged submissions from those based in Low- and Middle-income Countries, from early career researchers (ECR), from projects that incorporate perspectives from diverse global contexts, and those that provide bridging points, or that involve direct collaboration between the academic community and policy and practitioner networks.

Early Career Researcher Day: 4th June
Please note that many early career researchers are presenting on the 4th June at the dedicated ECR day. You are welcome to attend this session as a non-presenting participant, but please note that the tours scheduled at the end of the Wednesday only open to early career researchers - defined by ANGEL as Master student / PhD candidate / Post grad up to 6 years after PhD.

Financial support
Limited financial support is available to those who are presenting or playing an active role in the event such as leading a session. Priority will be given to presenting participants or speakers travelling from a Low Income or Lower-Middle Income Country that are not supported by an institution.
