CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation Scholarship Competition 2025-2026

September 1, 2025

Deadline: May 11, 2025, 11:59 pm EST

Objectives

The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation (Foundation) Scholarships are open to MSc Students, PhD Students and Postdoctoral Fellows whose research project is taking place at the Azrieli CHU Sainte-Justine Research Centre and/or Centre de réadaptation Marie Enfant (CRME) under the supervision of an active researcher of the Research Centre.

Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students to allow them to acquire research training. They are evaluated by a committee of Centre de recherche du CHU Sainte-Justine researchers. They serve as leverage for obtaining external funding.

Scholarship Amounts

The scholarship amount is determined annually by the Research Directorate depending on available funds.

For the current year, amounts are:

  • $26,000 for the Merit Scholarship at the MSc level

  • $33,000 for the Merit Scholarship at the PhD level

  • $54,000 for the Merit Scholarship at the Postdoctorate level

  • $2,500 for students receiving a professional salary

  • $2,500 for the Recruitment Scholarship

For master's, Ph.D., and postdoctoral excellence scholarships, funding is jointly provided by the Foundation and the research funds of the supervisor and/or scholarships below the allowable cumulative threshold (1:1). The research funds must come from budget accounts managed at CR-CHUSJ.

The students doing a direct transfer from MSc to a PhD degree during the award period will continue to receive the amount initially awarded to them (i.e., MSc Scholarship). The Supervisor's minimum contribution will then have to be adjusted, in order to respect the Centre de recherche du CHU Sainte-Justine's minimum scholarship policy for PhD students.

Funding Period

Recruitment Scholarships and Scholarships for students receiving professional salary are awarded in a single payment upon activation of the scholarship.

Merit Scholarships at the MSc, PhD and Postdoctorate levels are for a maximum period of 12 months and are non renewable. The scholarship will be activated on September 1st of the current year. Students wishing to activate their scholarship after September 1st must decline the amounts they would have been granted between September 1st and the activation of the scholarship.

The Foundation Scholarship will end should one of these situations occur:

  • Upon receipt of a major nominative scholarship (see the Accumulation of Scholarships policy in the Eligibility section)

  • At the final deposit of the MSc or PhD Thesis

  • At the departure from the Centre de recherche du CHU Sainte-Justine

  • At the end of the scholarship award

A student holding a scholarship at the time of application and ending before September 1st of the current year can activate the scholarship at the end of the external nominative scholarship (i.e., a scholarship in the name of the student). The Foundation’s Scholarship have a duration of 12 months and are subjec to the rules of cumulative scholarships. This procedure also prevails for a student whose University registration begins during the autumn semester.

Co-funding

Minimum co-funding must be met to receive a CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation Excellence Scholarship. Co-funding sources must not exceed the maximal scholarship accumulation (see the Accumulation of Scholarships policy in the Eligibility section) and may come from a combination of different sources:

  • Supervisor's research funds

  • Scholarships from other granting agencies

  • Clinical or professional salaries.
