This session will highlight how and why drug discovery fails, and how we can start to build a new way of discovering medicines where the current model falls short.

It is hard to know what's real and what is hype in AI-powered drug discovery. This session is our Reality Check, so we can understand what is real, what is not, and where we can go from there.

A clear lesson from the success of AI in other domains is the importance of benchmarks, enabling us to make concrete comparisons across models and across time. These just don't exist yet in AI Drug Discovery. This session brings together the experts trying to establish the standards we need to talk about the challenges that remain and how we can overcome them.

Challenges have a long and successful history of accelerating the field of AI. In the biological sciences the poster child for this is how the CASP Challenge drove the development of AlphaFold. New challenges specific to drug discovery are developing all the time. This session will showcase the growing number importance of challenges in this field, draw lessons learned from existing challenges, and bring together representatives to talk about how they can mutually reinforce each other's efforts to drive the field forward.

As drug discovery becomes more open, work has moved from siloed research labs and small, private collaborations into large communities and open platforms. This session highlights some of the some of the most intriguing communities and platforms paving the way for the future of drug discovery.

Flash talk speakers will give short (3-5 minute presentations). This session will be immediately followed by our cocktail reception, attendees can engage with our speakers at their posters or wherever you happen to meet throughout the event space.
