Membership in the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) is not required when submitting an abstract.

If the abstract is approved for presentation in the CSA Conference, the membership in the CSA and Conference registration will be required by April 15, 2025.

Notes:

- Paper co-authors neither presenting nor attending the CSA Conference are exempt from these registration requirements.

- Exceptions may apply in the case of interdisciplinary sessions (contact us for further information).

An abstract is a summary of your research and/or presentation. For the CSA Conference, we are requesting a brief abstract which (if approved) will be included in the Conference Program.

Abstracts (300-word max) should include the following elements;

1. Overall description of the topic explored
2. Outline of the main argument(s)
3. Brief summary of the conclusion(s)

As part of the abstract submission form, we are also requesting additional details to give the session organizers a greater understanding of your work. This information will not be posted in the Conference Program and will be visible to the session organizers only for review purposes. The details of your work should include: Objective; Background; Theoretical, historical, and/or methodological framework used; Results; Conclusion; Relevance to the theme of the session the abstract is being submitted.

The CSA Conference utilizes an online abstract submission system. Abstracts are submitted to a specific session open to the Call for Abstracts. You may submit a maximum of two (2) different abstracts to two (2) different sessions.

The CSA recognizes that there may be situations in which there are pedagogical and professional benefits to presenting the same research at multiple associations at Congress. The Association encourages its members, as a matter of good practice, to inform both associations of their plans to present the research in multiple association conferences.

The Conference Program Committee reserves the right to re-assign your abstract to a different session for consideration after initial review.

Abstracts not accepted in a Presentation Session may be considered for a Roundtable or Poster Session.

Presentations for approved abstracts will be assigned to a specific session in one of three categories: Presentation Session, Roundtable Session, or Poster Session.

A participant may be the sole or primary presenter in up to two (2) different sessions.

A participant may be a panelist, chair, discussant, or co-presenter in additional sessions.

Participants in Presentation and Roundtable Sessions will be given between 12-20 minutes for their presentations depending on the number of presentations in the session.

Typical scenarios:

· 3 presentations - 20 minutes each

· 4 presentations - 15 minutes each

· 5 presentations - 12 minutes each

The CSA must be notified immediately if there are changes to a presentation title or abstract or if the presentation has been withdrawn to ensure accuracy of the Conference Program.

Session organizers may request a copy of your paper and/or presentation prior to the Conference for an opportunity to review and provide feedback. Full papers or presentations will not be posted on the CSA Conference website nor within the Conference Program.

Failure to maintain communication with, or provide information requested by, the session organizer or the CSA may result in the removal of the presentation from the Conference program.

Presentation Sessions

In-person participants typically present orally with slides (using a projector and screen as well as a computer set up in the room).

Virtual participants will be utilizing Zoom to share their screen and slides while presenting orally.

Presentations may also take a more creative approach such as a film showing or performance art.

Roundtable Sessions

Multiple sessions will be held concurrently in one large room.

Audio-visual equipment will not be available.

In-person participants will present orally and may include hand-outs.

Poster Sessions

In-person and virtual presenters will be scheduled for a specific day and time-period to speak about their work with delegates.

Posters may be uploaded to the Conference website in advance along with an optional pre-recorded video about the work being presented. Details will be posted once finalized.
