Travel Information
Summer in Nova Scotia uses Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT, UTC -03:00).
Many attendees will arrive to Halifax by air travel. All major Canadian airlines (AC, WJ, Porter) have regularly scheduled daily flights arriving and departing Halifax. The airport (YHZ) is located 35 minutes from Dalhousie. Various taxi, Uber, and shuttle services are available for hire. Affordable scheduled public transportation from the airport to downtown Halifax is also available.
For attendees looking to drive, as an example Montreal to Halifax is approximately 12 hours of driving time. Fredericton to Halifax is approximately 4.5 hours.
Via Rail has limited service to Halifax, although this option is not fast (many stops) and costs are comparable to flights.
Shuttle and Buses Services to and from Halifax Stanfield Airport.

Hotel Halifax & Barrington Hotel
A total of 50 rooms mixed between 2 double, 2 queen size and 1 King size beds have been blocked at the Hotel Halifax and Barrington Hotel for the Canadian Society of Microbiologists 72nd Annual Conference registrants.

All guestroom cancellations must be received by the Reservations Department 48 hours prior to arrival. Failure to cancel a guaranteed reservation by 48 hours prior to arrival, or failure to occupy the room will result in a charge of one night’s room and tax.
The block will be held until May10, 2023. After this date, any remaining guestrooms will revert back to the Hotel for general sale. Reservations received after this date will be accepted on a space and rate available basis.
Rooms can be upgraded with a higher rate via the online reservation links till May 10, 2023.
The Hotel’s check in time is 3:00pm and check out is by 11:00 am. Guests arriving prior to 3:00pm will be accommodated as rooms become available.

Dalhousie Residence
Dalhousie Residence rooms are nearby to all the lecture halls (within 200m!) and free parking is available, making it an excellent option for affordable housing during the conference (~50$/night). A variety of rooms (single/double) or multi unit suites are available. Attendees looking for a stay will be encouraged to book early and will receive the ‘Dalhousie’ reduced rate based on availability. Due to the high season (late June) group bookings (room blocks) are hard to secure.
Dalhousie Residence:
45 single rooms at Risley Hall and 36 suites at the LeMarchant Place ranging from 2 to 4 bedrooms have have been blocked for CSM2023 Halifax Conference registrants. When making your reservation, please insert the promotional code "MICRO23" and choose "Halifax, Nova Scotia" location at the top of the page to receive the quoted rates for regular and students.

Pease note:
The 45 single rooms and the 4 bedrooms suites are available from Saturday, June 24 till Thursday, June 29 (check out date).
The 2 and 3 bedroom suites are only available from Sunday, June 25 till Thursday, June 29 (check out date).
Dalhousie University offers a discunted rate for students, if reservation is made by the student and the student ID is provided.
All rooms will be available online until May 10, 2023. After this time, reservations will be accepted based on availability. Please contact Natalie.Gibbs@dal.ca if booking more than 10 rooms per night.
All rooms and suites fees includes linen, towels, wireless Internet access, overnight parking, and daily membership privileges to the Dalplex fitness facility. Rate is subject to 2% destination marketing levy and 15% HST.

Saint Mary's University Residence
Due to the limited number of rooms available at Dalhousie Residence, 120 single rooms are available (based on availability) at Saint Mary's University. It is highly recommended that you book your accommodation at your earliest convenience. The Loyola residence building at Saint Mary's University is 1.5 km from the McCain building where the scientific lectures will be held.
Rate:
Single rooms $70/night.
Fees include: 15% HST, 2% City Levy, parking, Wifi, linens and towels, Breakfast (7:30 am - 9:00 am), access to the Fitness Centre (must be 16 year of age or older).
