How to Travel to Canada : Do You Need a Visa?
To travel to Canada, you may need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), a visitor visa or only a valid passport. Find out what you need regarding your home country or your specific situation.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):
Fees: $7 CAN
You must apply for an eTA online before travelling to Canada by air. Do not wait for the last minute.
Travel with the passport you will use to get your eTA.
Visitor visa (or temporary resident visa):
Fees: from $100 CAN
You must meet some basic requirements to travel to Canada. Consult the website Determine your eligibility – Visit on business.
If you need a visa, you must apply for a visitor visa. There is no separate application for business visitors.
Find out if you need to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
Make sure to apply for a visa before booking your flight to Canada and about 12 weeks before your scheduled departure date. You could check processing times online.
Letter of Invitation from a business partner:
If you need a visa, you may need to provide a letter of invitation from your business partner. If yes, please send us a request by email at isdm2019@fmed.ulaval.ca with the following information:
- Title (Mr, Ms);
- First name as on passport;
- Last name as on passport;
- Passport number;
- Date of birth;
- Company name and position;
- Complete home address;
- Phone number (work and home);
- Email address;
- Length of stay in Canada (in days);
- Departure date from Canada.
We will send you the letter (pdf file) by email. Print 2 copies : one to submit when applying for your visa and one to present when you enter Canada.

By Plane
Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is located only 13 km from Université Laval.
There are direct flights from many major cities in Canada and US to Québec City.
For all flight options to and from Quebec City, please refer to the list of destinations served.
From the Airport, you can take a cab, rent a car to go to Université Laval or take Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC) (shuttle service three times per day).
If your final destination is Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), plan at least 3 hours (164 miles) to come to Québec City by car, train or bus.
By Train
The Sainte-Foy Train Station (Gare de Sainte-Foy) is located at 3255 chemin de la Gare, less than 5 km from Université Laval. However, some routes may stop only at the other Quebec City train station, Gare du Palais, located downtown at 450 rue de la Gare du Palais, 9 km from Université Laval. Check when you buy your ticket.

From Gare de Sainte-Foy, you can take a cab to go to Université Laval.
By Bus
Bus station Sainte-Foy Terminal (Gare de Sainte-Foy) is located at 3001, chemin des Quatre-Bourgeois, 3.5 km from Université Laval. However, some bus companies may stop only at the other Quebec City bus station, Gare du Palais Bus Terminal, located downtown at 320 rue Abraham-Martin, 9 km from Université Laval. Check when you buy your ticket.

From Sainte-Foy Terminal, you can get a cab or take the city bus (800 or 801) to go to Université Laval. Get off at Station Université Laval.
By Car
Located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City is easily reached on the north shore by Highway 40 (autoroute Félix-Leclerc) or on the south shore by Highway 20 (autouroute Jean-Lesage).

Getting Around
Taxi
Taxis in Quebec City can be identified by the sign on the top of their car. There are several companies you can call or you can get a cab at one of the various taxi stands in the city.

Public Transit (local RTC buses)
The Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC) provides access to Université Laval and most tourist attractions.
Routes 800 and 801 serve Sainte-Foy Terminal (Gare de Sainte-Foy), Laurier Boulevard and Université Laval (bus stop # 1561, Station Université Laval).
Route 804 serves Laurier Boulevard, Université Laval (bus stop #7008, de la Foresterie) and chemin Sainte-Foy.
These routes offer high frequency service with a departure every 10 or 15 minutes.
From Université Laval, routes 800 and 801 take you down to Quebec City in only 20 minutes.
You can pay directly on the bus (cash only, $3.50) or buy a pass in advance at most drugstores.
