This training is intended for participants who are already using the Prechtl method of qualitative assessment of general movements in young children and have successfully completed the basic course under GM-Trust supervision.

This assessment method has been proven to be effective for prenatal and postnatal assessment of nervous system integrity. Scientific evidence shows that the qualitative assessment of general movements (GMs) at a very young age is the best predictor of cerebral palsy. This method has become a powerful complement to the traditional neurological examination.

This advanced course will give you additional intensive training in clinical judgment. It will cover the details of assessment, proper terminology, appropriate techniques, and the application of individual developmental trajectories.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the Asses the General Movement’s componants including speed, amplitude, intensity and rotations during
    the preterm and term age;
  • Assess fidgety movements and the concurrent motor repertoire (movements and postures) in three- to five-month-old infants;
  • Adapt the use of the GMA to their clinical setting and for research;
  • Add a quantitave optimality score to their evaluation.
