Your stay in Quebec City
VISIT QUEBEC
QUÉBEC CITY, THE NATIONAL CAPITAL!
Founded in 1608 by explorer Samuel de Champlain, Québec City is the cradle of French-speaking North America, with its fortifications, narrow streets and 400 years of architecture.
Perched on Cap Diamant, overlooking the St. Lawrence River, it's a proud reminder that here, as nowhere else in America, the word "history" means something.
It is the capital of the province of Quebec and home to the National Assembly. The region's population is 717,000, 95% of whom are French-speaking. English, however, is spoken by a significant proportion of the population and by the vast majority of workers in the tourism industry.
Québec City is of Algonquin origin, meaning "narrow passage" in reference to its strategic location on the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River. The city's proximity to nature makes it ideal for sports and outdoor activities in all seasons.
Québec City is essentially divided into 3 sections: Lower Town, Upper Town and Grande Allée - Colline Parlementaire.
As a city on a human scale, a walking tour is a good choice.
Very safe, Quebec City has one of the lowest crime rates in North America. Québec City is one of the world's top gastronomic destinations, renowned for the hospitality of its people and their joie de vivre. Their spontaneity and ability to welcome visitors have propelled Québec to its current position as an international host city, where some of the world's most exciting events are held every year - including, most notably, the 1st International Congress on Safe Sports Research.

Taxes and tips
Prices displayed in Canada, for both services and material goods, do not include taxes by default. A federal tax of 5% applicable everywhere in Canada is added to the posted price. In addition to this federal tax, there is a 10% tax for the province of Quebec.
It is customary to add a 15% gratuity for tax-free services (e.g. restaurants, tourist services). This tip is not included in the bill, and employees in the tourism and restaurant industries are largely paid in this way. You can therefore give a tip in cash or by credit card, indicating a percentage or an amount.
How do I pay?
Once you've arrived in Canada, you have several options. The first is to withdraw money from your bank account at an ATM or any other bank. Credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted everywhere.
You can also go to an exchange office to change your currency into Canadian dollars. There are numerous exchange offices in major cities, both in banks and airports.
Vehicle rental
If you have opted to rent a vehicle, the main driver must present a valid driving license and a credit card in his or her name.
Concerning the credit card :
Visa/Mastercard: the word "CREDIT" must be written on the front of the card, otherwise you won't be able to rent the vehicle.
American Express: these cards are considered to be credit cards, and are therefore accepted without problem in Canada.
The words "DEBIT" or "CREDIT" are only present on bank cards issued since June 9, 2016.
If your card is not marked "CREDIT", please contact your bank to issue a new card.
