35th International Research Ship Operators Forum Vancouver, Canada 2024
Welcome to the 35th International Research Ship Operators (IRSO) conference in Vancouver, on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
We are honoured to gather here, amidst the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of this land, for a symposium dedicated to advancing the support of the marine scientific community’s research efforts at sea and fostering collaboration. This 35th IRSO conference serves as a bridge between indigenous wisdom and modern science, bringing together innovators, maritime experts, and enthusiasts from around the globe.
Join us as we navigate through a sea of knowledge, exploring new horizons in ship operations, technology, and sustainability while honouring the connections we have to the ocean. This event offers a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and inspire through shared stories, insights, and aspirations.
We are proud to host an eco-conscious conference that prioritizes environmental responsibility, aiming to showcase practices that align with a greener future.
About the IRSO Vancouver Logo
The IRSO Vancouver logo elegantly features the iconic Twin Peaks, known as Ch'ích'iyúy Elx̱wíḵn ("The Twin Sisters") in the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) language. These peaks, also called the Lions, rise proudly along the North Shore Mountains in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. They symbolize the region's geological splendor and indigenous heritage. Intertwined with the peaks are cascading waves from the ocean, illustrating Vancouver's interconnectedness of land and sea. This harmonious fusion embodies the relationship between nature, culture, and community in the Sea to Sky corridor, making the logo a powerful symbol of city's beauty and unity.
The logo was specially designed to serve as a keepsake for conference attendees, providing them with a tangible reminder of their time spent in Vancouver and the enriching experiences they had during their visit.
