    Dr. Mamdani is Vice President of Data Science and Advanced Analytics at Unity Health Toronto and Director of the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM). Dr. Mamdani’s team bridges advanced analytics, including machine learning, with clinical and management decision-making to improve patient outcomes and hospital efficiency.

    Dr. Mamdani is also a Professor in the Department of Medicine of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation of the Dalla Lana Faculty of Public Health. He is also an adjunct Senior Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) and a Faculty Affiliate of the Vector Institute. In 2010, Dr. Mamdani was named among Canada’s Top 40 under 40 and has published over 500 studies in peer-reviewed medical journals.

    Dr. Mamdani obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and completed a pharmacoeconomic and outcomes research fellowship at the Detroit Medical Center. During his fellowship, Dr. Mamdani obtained a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, with a concentration in econometric theory. He then completed a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University with a concentration in quantitative methods.

    Assistant Professor and Director of the Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education at the University of Manitoba

    Dr. Hamilton is an educator, researcher, and clinician from the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.  She joined the College of Medicine in 1999 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine.

    In 2006, she moved to the Department of Medical Education. She is currently the Director of the Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education at the Max Rady College of Medicine. Prior to this, she worked as a dietitian in Northwestern Ontario and as the Executive Director of the Northern Diabetes Health Network in Sudbury.

    Dr. Hamilton is a registered dietitian, a graduate of the University of Manitoba and the Misericordia Hospital Dietetic Internship program. She holds a Master of Education in Health Professions Education from the University of Manitoba and a Doctorate in Education from Northeastern University in Boston, where she explored faculty development, leadership, and curriculum change.  Her interests include faculty development, curriculum and organizational change, and how educators can facilitate change through their teaching practice.

This session will introduce the audience to the basic concepts surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) in health care. Dr. Mandami will discuss current and emerging applications for AI in medicine, including a discussion surrounding the key opportunities and challenges.

Dr. Joanne Hamilton - We’re Going To Have An Evolution: We All Want To Change The World!

This session will discuss leadership and organizational change in a complex environment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply concepts from organizational leadership theories in a practical way to help guide organizational change.
  2. Evaluate how the complexity of their organizational context influences change and adjust change management strategies to adapt.
  3. Engage faculty and staff across the organization in the change process.

Session Description:

This panel discussion will provide an opportunity for faculty, preceptors, and learners to develop a better understanding of the plans for NOSM U's expansion. The panel will include Dr. Sarita Verma, President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean and CEO of NOSM University, Dr. Rob Anderson, Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medicine, Dr. Lee Toner, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medicine, Dr. Tara Baron, Associate Dean, Continuing Education Professional Development, and Dr. Céline Larivière, Provost and Vice President, Academic, NOSM U. Following this dynamic discussion, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
