Symposium québécois de santé mentale, neurodéveloppement et génétique

Quebec Symposium on Mental Health, Neurodevelopment and Genetics

Recent findings of psychiatric genetics lay the foundations for an upheaval in our understanding of diagnostic boundaries, biological factors and mechanisms and the way we take care of mental disorders. Mental health professionals are often poorly informed to understand the interest and limits of genetic testing in psychiatry or answer questions from patients.

The symposium proposes scientific talks and roundtables to discuss the concrete implications, challenges, and opportunities of translating into clinic the advances in psychiatric genetics in a practical approach.

On the other hand, geneticists and genetic counselors are unaware of the long-term mental health implications linked to large-scale whole exome-genome diagnostic procedures currently implemented in the clinic.
The symposium will propose scientific talks and roundtables to discuss the practical implications, challenges, and opportunities of translating into clinic the advances in psychiatric genetics in a practical approach.
