Las Cruces and Surroundings

Part of the Chihuahuan Desert eco region, Las Cruces is home to iconic southwestern vegetation including ocotillo, creosote, and barrel cacti and desert dwellers such as coyotes, jackrabbits, and javelina. Las Cruces is also surrounded by beautiful topography, including the Madrean Sky Islands of the Organ Mountains and the local area landmark known as Tortugas Mountain.

For botanists and wildlife enthusiasts (and everything in between!) with a little extra time to explore, the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park, San Andres National Wildlife Refuge, and the infamous White Sands National Park are within driving distance of Las Cruces and worth the journey.
