WISE Symposium 2024
Welcome
Are you proud of a recent paper published in a top quartile journal and eager to share it with the world while engaging in live online interactions with the global community?
Welcome to the WISE Symposium—an annual, global, engaging, and interactive virtual poster session initiated by the Natural Computing Applications Forum (NCAF) and supported by the International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluid Flow (HFF).
What defines WISE? WISE, short for Weekend Intersection of Deep Learning, Digital Twins, and Physics-Based Simulations for Digital Engineering challenges, surpasses the conventional symposium format. It's not just an event; it's a dynamic platform meticulously designed to showcase cutting-edge research and foster collaboration among global researchers and practitioners.
So, why would the WISE platform work? In-person meetings undoubtedly have their value, but they often come with significant costs and time commitments, requiring frequent attendance over several years to truly reap the benefits. However, the reality is that a single conference meeting rarely yields substantial outcomes.
Consider this scenario: you're an author based in Brazil, eager to connect with counterparts in India or China. Such cross-border interactions can be challenging to facilitate without the right platform. WISE bridges this gap by providing a space for seamless global interaction. You can engage with numerous authors, ask questions, and exchange insights effortlessly.
Moreover, if you're an academic involved in translational research and keen on engaging with industries, WISE offers you the perfect opportunity through its workshops. This platform eliminates the need for extensive financial investments typically associated with reaching out to industries. On the flip side, if you're an industry professional looking to stay updated on the latest developments, WISE enables you to do so through posters, videos, and live interactions with authors—all without the need for excessive expenditures.
Why choose WISE? Envision a space where your research reaches a global audience. Through compelling posters, dynamic two-and-half-minute videos, and interactive online discussions, WISE provides a stage for researchers to showcase their work, offering insights into future developments. This symposium is more than a gathering; it's a collaborative hub where connections are forged, ideas are exchanged, and joint endeavours take flight.
Highlight the influence of your research, referencing a paper published in established peer-reviewed subscription-based journals within the last three years. For interactive online workshops catering to industry, it's imperative that the underlying research has been published in reputable journals within the last 7-8 years. This ensures the content remains current and aligns with the latest advancements in the field. We kindly request that submissions not be from journals that require authors to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs), as we aim to prioritise contributions from journals with traditional, established publication practices.
Amidst the vast array of papers circulating online, set your research apart from the rest. Prepare to join a dynamic and engaging global community—submit your poster along with a 750-word narrative about the poster. This will enable us to craft a professionally designed two-and-a-half-minute poster video with AI voiceover.
Key components of the symposium include:
- Global Collaboration and Latest Research: The symposium brings together researchers and practitioners from around the world, creating an opportunity for global networking and idea exchange. It also highlights the most recent and advanced research by inviting academics to present their latest findings through live virtual posters and interactive online workshops.
- Live Virtual Poster Sessions: Encouraging interdisciplinary discussions, the virtual poster sessions serve as a dynamic platform for in-depth exploration at the intersection of deep learning, digital twins, and physics-based simulations within the context of engineering challenges. These sessions facilitate discussions that cover multiscale phenomena, ranging from the nanoscale to the macroscale. They integrate a variety of computational mechanics methodologies, incorporating state-of-the-art tools and techniques.
The symposium features four 2-hour live virtual poster sessions with plenary and keynote lectures, providing a platform for researchers to present their work through engaging posters complemented by brief two and half minute video presentations and a 100-word layperson summary. This format enables authors to succinctly showcase their research, fostering live Q&A sessions and discussions on future work. - Interactive Online Workshops: Spotlight translational research and case studies vital for industry, offering valuable insights to propel their digitalisation initiatives forward. If you have a fully functional code available on GitHub, seize this opportunity to connect with the academic community. In both scenarios, the research should be supported by journal papers. This event, spanning one to two hours, is crafted to actively engage both regional industries and academic audiences across diverse time zones, operating independently from the Live Virtual Poster Sessions.
Suggested Areas of Research Interest for Poster Submissions
As an author contemplating submission to the WISE Symposium, consider the following five key areas of interest. If your research aligns with two or more of these criteria, it's an indication that your paper could make a fitting and valuable contribution:
- Deep Learning Applications: If your work involves the practical application of deep learning techniques or contributes advancements in this dynamic field.
- Advancements in Digital Twins: If your research significantly contributes to the development or application of digital twin technology, emphasising virtual representations of physical systems.
- Physics-Informed Simulations in Engineering: If your work incorporates robust simulations informed by physics-based principles, specifically addressing challenges in engineering design and manufacturing.
- Utilisation of Novel Computational Methodologies: If your research employs cutting-edge and novel computational methodologies, demonstrating innovation in computational approaches.
- Innovations in Virtual Design and Manufacturing: If your paper or case study showcases novel approaches, methodologies, or applications centred around virtual design and manufacturing processes.
Before finalising your submission, ensure that your work adheres to the comprehensive submission guidelines provided by the symposium. In case of uncertainties, feel free to reach out to the symposium organisers for guidance on the relevance of your proposed topic.
