2. PAD best practice assessment for lower limbs with lymphedema

Presented by: Maryse Beaumier, RN, MSc, PhD

In best practice, the arterial vascular status of the legs of all patients with lower limb lymphedema should

be assessed to adapt a proper compression. Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a chronic condition that can affect the upper and lower extremities but occurs more frequently in the lower extremities. PAD causes decreased blood and oxygen supply to the skin, constituting ischemia. Many ways exist to assess the arterial status: arterio-brachial index, toe pressure, arterial waves, and transcutaneous oximetry. Their methods and interpretations will be discussed during this session.

Following this presentation, participants will be able:

1.     To explore the peripheral arterial disease in lower limb

2.     To explain the methods and reference values of arterio-brachial index, toe pressure, arterial waves, and transcutaneous oximetry

3.     To discuss the interpretation of the best tool for lower limb with lymphoedema.
