MAR32 - Coastal and marine geological processes in a changing environment - sponsored by Amundsen Science

Northern coastlines and marine environments are undergoing major changes due to the melting of glaciers and the reduction in sea ice. These changes affect marine sedimentary processes and biological productivity. In order to better understand and predict coastal changes and their effects on the seabed, there is a need to reconstruct past marine environments and their links to climate variability. Conversely, interpreting past environmental and productivity changes as inferred from the paleo record requires monitoring present-day coastal and marine sedimentary processes. This session aims to bring together researchers and practitioners who are studying the modern physical processes leading to changes in the coastal and marine environments with those working on paleo records, with the ultimate goal of enhancing our understanding of changes occurring in northern environments.
