OTH76 - Indigenous-led community-based monitoring - sponsored by Nunavut Wildlife Management Board
Indigenous Peoples are at the forefront of the impact of rapid climate changes. Indigenous knowledge systems offer unique, place-based and timely information to understand the nature of changes and develop solutions to adapt. Inuit, First Nations and Métis in the North are playing a critical role in observing changes to the ice, wildlife, waters and climate. This session will provide space to highlightIndigenous-led or co-produced monitoring and research. We hope to showcase a diversity of approaches in order to foster dialogue and shared learning on this topic. It is hoped that presentations will touch on topics such as youth engagement, capacity building and ways of weaving different knowledge systems.
