    Educational Forum

Educational Forum (Extra $100 Registration Fee Required for Educational Forum Participation) Module 1 - Science of Aviation Noise This course discusses the basic principles of sound propagation and how sound pressure is measured and introduces common noise metrics, including DNL, SEL, and Lmax. Module 2 - Regulating Aviation Noise This course discusses regulatory history from the dawn of the Jet Age forward to today. It focuses on key legislation that affected airports, communities, and operators and helped shape the regulatory climate today, such as ANCA, Part 36 certification, FAR Part 150, and 161. Module 3 - Aircraft Performance and Noise This course discusses how aircraft takeoff performance affects noise propagation. Investigating the factors that influence takeoff performance and how these variables affect the noise level an aircraft produces using real-world flight examples. Topics such as density altitude, temperature, winds, and aircraft weight are all examined in detail. Module 4 - Air Traffic Control & Flight Procedures This course discusses how the FAA manages air traffic, with a focus on understanding how and why traffic is segregated, the sharing of control responsibilities, and the overall responsibilities of air traffic controllers during various phases of a flight. In addition, the course explores the difference between various flight procedures and means of navigation (Instrument Flight Rules or IFR vs. Visual Flight Rules or VFR). Module 5 - Aviation Noise Modeling This course provides a high-level overview of the FAA’s Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), which focuses on the inputs that make up an AEDT noise analysis and how these inputs influence the shape and size of the noise contours. Lastly, some of the outputs the model develops and how to interpret the results are discussed.

    Airport Noise Office Meeting

Optional attendance, pre- registration required *AIRPORT ATTENDEES ONLY This meeting will focus on key aspects of airport noise management, including staffing needs, NOMS (Noise and Operations Monitoring System) requirements, and data cleaning practices. Community engagement, "Fly Quiet" programs, and effective complaint handling will also be explored. The session will look at setting five-year goals for noise management, measuring success, and addressing current challenges, along with any additional relevant topics. This collaborative discussion will help shape strategies for future noise management improvements.
