Assessing Noise Impacts- A Reality Check

Session Chairs: Marie-Jo Fremont, Kallie GloverSpeakers:Dr. Stephanie Grady, Boston University Dr. Juan Alonso, Stanford University SLIDO CODE: 3740406 Assessing aircraft noise exposure accurately is critical given that noise assessments are the backbone of an aircraft noise policy and any actions taken for noise abatement and mitigation purposes. This session will describe changes in noise exposure around 90 US airports between 1995 and 2015 as well as differences between AEDT-modeled noise levels and recorded noise levels based on a large-scale study of some San Francisco Airport arrival traffic. After the presentations, a panel will discuss implications of the studies and explore next steps to improve the assessment of noise exposure.

Attributes of a 21st Century Noise Report

Panelists:Marie- Jo Fremont, Session Chair, Concerned Residents of Palo Alto Jim Allderdice, Vianair SLIDO CODE: 2573877 Understanding the location and severity of aircraft noise is essential for stakeholders, especially airports and communities seeking effective solutions to reduce aviation noise exposure. In this session, speakers will present innovative approaches to reporting and visualizing noise levels experienced by communities using non-DNL metrics. Attendees will gain insights from the presented data, including historical trends, learn how data visualization can be used to develop effective noise reduction strategies, and see how airport noise offices could leverage this new report.
