13th International Bordetella Symposium
The 13th International Bordetella Symposium, June 26-30, 2022
We look forward to welcoming you in person or virtually to the 13th International Bordetella Symposium in Vancouver, Canada (or in your home office)! While the infectious disease world has been dominated by COVID-19 for the last 2 years, a lot of great work has been continuing in the field of Bordetella, and we are excited to bring our community together again to hear about all of these exciting developments.
For those of you attending in person, the conference will be held in the beautiful city of Vancouver on the campus of the University of British Columbia and will give you the opportunity to enjoy Canadian West Coast hospitality and surroundings, from the Pacific Ocean to the Coastal Mountains. We will have all the appropriate COVID-19 public health protocols in place and are aiming to make the conference as environmentally sustainable as possible.
Location
The 13th International Bordetella Symposium is held on the UBC Point Grey (Vancouver) campus, which sits on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation.
Information at a glance
The conference starts on June 26th at 6pm and ends on June 30th at noon.
Program: Please check the "Schedule" tab above.
Only registered delegates will be able to view abstracts and view who else is attending (see tabs above).
If you have registered but cannot see the abstracts or participants, you will need to log in (top right) to activate your account. When you registered, a confirmation email was sent with a link to activate your account. If you cannot find the email (it could be in your spam folder), please go to the log in screen and click on "Get a new password". Use the same email that you previously used to register. You should now see all the abstracts and participants.
You may update your Fourwaves profile at any time.
To upload slides or your poster, please log into your account. Hover over your initials (top right) to see your "registration" and your submission. Click on your submission. Upload your slides or poster in the appropriate box. You can present your poster as a traditional large format poster (zooming in and out), a collection of slides, or a collection of figures. Click on Save Form. On the Abstracts tab, search for your name and find the poster or slides associated with it (look for the icons at the top of the window).
If you have not created a Submission (e.g. you are an invited speaker), please start a new submission (click on the red button on the home page). Fill out the required information on the form and add an abstract. Click Submit when finished.
For those attending in-person, please bring your laptop or tablet to access the virtual poster sessions.
You can get a feel for how the virtual poster session works here: https://help.fourwaves.com/how-does-the-virtual-poster-session-platform-work-the-day-of-the-event. You may need to give your browser access to the camera and microphone. This format is meant to simulate an in-person poster session where people can drop by any time during the set time period.
There will also be a Lounge (Zoom room) as a space for in-person and virtual attendees to mingle. You can message participants to join you in the lounge at any time.
For those attending in-person, poster size is restricted to 40 inches x 40 inches, or 100 cm x 100 cm. You may put your poster up Sunday evening before the opening session or Monday morning.
Accommodations: While the May 25th deadline for the conference rate has passed, you may still book rooms on Campus, albeit at a higher rate.
International Bordetella Society: Please consider supporting the International Bordetella Society. Discounts are available to members – click here to join.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Vancouver! If you are arriving from outside Canada, please use the ArriveCan app to declare your vaccination status.
If you are arriving at the Airport (YVR), please take a taxi to UBC. Ask for Gage Suites or West Coast Suites on Student Union Blvd. Check the address on the email that you received when you booked your room. The flat-rate taxi fare is $36. You may also take an Uber or the Canada Line Skytrain, followed by transferring to a bus that will drop you at the UBC Bus Loop, steps away from the campus housing.
Non-medical masks are required in all public indoor spaces on the UBC campus until June 30th.
Coffee breaks and lunches are provided but you will need to find your own breakfast. Rooms on campus are equipped with a kitchen and there is a market nearby and a grocery store about a 20 - 30 minute walk away. There are a variety of coffee shops and fast food outlets that are open for breakfast as well. Service can be slow due to staff shortages.
Vancouver has a number of excellent restaurants and we encourage you to explore them on Monday (call first) and Tuesday evening. On Sunday, there will be a welcome reception open to all, and a banquet on Wednesday (ticket required).
The sun sets after 9:30 pm this time of the year, so don't forget to head to the beach or the Rose Garden (steps from Housing) to watch it set.
