The 17th Canadian Drosophila Research Conference - Canfly 2023
CanFly 2023 will take place at Dalhousie University in the Marion McCain Arts & Social Sciences Building on June 11 - 14, 2023, and is organized out of Dalhousie University, Mount Saint-Vincent University, Université de Moncton and Université de Sherbrooke. An hybrid option is also provided through Fourwaves where participants registered to the virtual format will be able to attend all talks. CanFly 2023 is open to researchers in academia and industry working in Canada and internationally.
Dalhousie University is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. We are all Treaty people.
To promote the presence of trainees from all Canadian laboratories, we have received a generous donation to help support travel fees for students in laboratories experiencing financial difficulties. There will be $500 financial aid available for up to 4 students the committee will select based on the supervisor’s declaration of their current funding situation, which must be submitted with the registration (1 page max, list all current funding sources and briefly justify the need for financial support). The selected students will be informed a week after registration closes.

Abstract Submissions will be accepted from March 1 - April 26, 2023 at the time of registration
Undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to participate by giving oral and poster presentations. CanFly represents an informal environment offering a wide range of participants. Thus, allowing for respectful and stimulating discussions. Past editions of CanFly resulted in numerous new collaborations formed between attendees.
Deadline for guaranteed access to budget accommodation: April 26, 2023
We have reserved a block of very affordable accommodations on campus at Dalhousie University very close to the conference venue. Single residence style rooms with shared bathroom are available for as low as $33 + tax/night, and 2 person suites with private bath for as low as $90 + tax/night (student rates). Please note that any student must present a valid student ID upon arrival to receive a discounted student rate. To ensure that you have access to these accommodations you must book by April 26. After that date you can still book on campus at Dalhousie for the same price, but it will no longer be guaranteed availability. Participants are welcome to book any accommodation of their choosing. Halifax has many hotels and other options for accommodation. These can be quite expensive and you should be sure to book well in advance.

We encourage people to wear masks while in the lecture hall and poster viewing area, and we ask that you do not attend the meeting in person if you are sick.
