The Louise and Alan Edwards Foundation requests applications for their Edwards PhD. Studentships in Pain Research. The objective of these Studentships is to support full-time research in chronic pain that will be conducted at the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain (AECRP), either on campus or at an affiliated hospital. Qualifying applicants must be students who have already been accepted into a PhD program at McGill University supervised by an AECRP full member. Masters students may apply to this program, however, if selected, they must start their PhD by Sept 1st (proof of which must be submitted by September 30, 2024). This is a firm condition of this award. The Studentships have a stipend of $25,000 per annum. Funding is for two years with a third year contingent on mutual satisfaction.

The Foundation requires that applicants obtain an agreement for supervision from a Full Member of the AECRP. Consult https://www.mcgill.ca/painresearch/people for a list of researchers and research themes. The Principal Investigator will participate in the formulation of a brief description of the tentative PhD research project. Acknowledgement of The Louise and Alan Edwards Foundation must be given in any and all publications or posters related to this Studentship. A report is to be submitted to The Foundation at each year’s end.

Applications must be submitted via this website (see "Submission" page) as a single English language PDF document and contain the following: a) letter of agreement from supervisor, b) two letters of reference, c) a three-page maximum CV (include complete mailing address), d) a list of any and all existing and pending funding and e) a one page research description, which could include references.

Applications that exceed the page limitations will not be considered.

Successful applicants will receive an email from the Foundation in June 2024. They will have 15 calendar days to reply to this email stating whether they accept or decline the offer. Note that failure to reply within this time frame will be considered a decline of the offer.

It is expected and understood that trainees will be applying to multiple agencies for funding. Those who receive funding from alternate sources (e.g. CIHR, FRSQ), are expected to notify the Foundation of this fact as soon as possible so that LAEF funding can be offered to someone else.
