Tourism in the Ottawa-Gatineau area
A few ideas of iconic places to visit in the Capital area.
- Parliament Hill : a must-see for its stunning architecture, historical significance, and view's on Gatineau.
- Rideau Canal : a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the winter this canal becomes the world's largest outdoors skate ring. In the summer, you can kayak on the canal. It is also a perfect place to walk or bike around.
- ByWard Market : ByWard market is ideal for a quick shopping section or to find some food and drinks. A beaver-tail food truck is also in Byward's.
- Canadian Tulip Festival : Every May, Ottawa's ground is covered by over 300 000 tulips. Most of the tulips are visible along Dows Lake. The Netherlands has been gifting tulip bulbs every year since 1943 to tank Canada for hosting the Royal Family during WW2.
- Museums: Ottawa is home to 7 national museums
Canadian Museum of History: across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, you can learn more about the history of Canada. It is also an awesome spot to have a nice view of the parliament.
