Québec-Océan 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting

Welcome

Dear Colleagues, Allies and Partners

It is with great enthusiasm that Québec-Ocean invites you to participate in large numbers to its first virtual Annual Scientific Meeting (RSA2021) on February 8, 9 and 10, 2021.

The ocean will be in the spotlight in 2021, with the beginning of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This international initiative, whose objective is to bring together all stakeholders to develop tools and policies to improve the health and resilience of the ocean, confirms the community's growing interest in the ocean and the recognition of its importance for humanity. The marine environments that surround Quebec provide it with ecological, economic and social benefits, but they are also threatened by global changes and local anthropogenic pressures. By studying the functioning of these ecosystems and their evolution, the mission of Québec-Océan accompanies Quebec society towards a more sustainable use of marine environments.

In this context, RSA2021 was specifically designed to reveal and discuss the latest advances in oceanography, recognize excellence and develop new research opportunities. Conferences, poster presentations, a panel and virtual cafés will allow to learn, share and deepen collaborations between members and Quebec-Ocean Allies and partners. Invited lectures will provide an opportunity to discover the work of two new members. Jacob Stolle (INRS-ETE) will inform us about the dangers and risks of coastal flooding, while Émilie Saulnier-Talbot (U. Laval) will talk about the impact of human activities on coastal zones, seen over the long term.

In addition, on February 11, 2021, two workshops will be organized by the Student Committee for students and postdoctoral fellows as a priority, although open to all interested parties.

Looking forward to seeing you in large numbers!
