How do we make sense of conflicting views on the climate crisis? This interactive workshop introduces cognitive-affective mapping (CAMs) — a powerful tool for unpacking belief systems, emotions, and values. CAMs help reveal not only how individuals make sense of complex issues like the climate crisis, but also where common ground may exist between seemingly divergent perspectives. Join us to explore the rich, often overlooked grey zones in a debate too often cast in black and white. Cognitive mapping is a way our brain organizes and understands information about the world around us.

Join us in the Symposia Theatre with keynote speaker Presidential Distinguished Professor, Michael Mann. Lecture title: Science Under Siege In his lecture, climate scientist Michael Mann explores his collaboration with public health expert Peter Hotez to expose the five major forces driving today’s anti-science movement—categorized into six “P”s: plutocrats, pros, politicians, polluters, petrostates, posers, pretenders, propagandists, and the press. Drawing on their frontline experiences confronting climate denial and COVID-19 misinformation, The lecture offers both a sobering warning and a strategic roadmap for countering the growing threat to science and reason—emphasizing that while the stakes are unprecedented, meaningful action is still possible.
