Welcome

ChemCon is a student-led Chemistry event serving Atlantic Canada and ChemCon 2023 is proud to acknowledge that ChemCon takes place within Kjipuktuk, Mi'kma'ki, the unceded historical and present territory of the Mi'kmaq First Nation. Chemistry has historically excluded Indigenous voices, and we hope to be part of the movement to change this and to promote Indigenous practices and knowledge to become integrated within science.

The Atlantic Chemistry Convention, or ChemCon for short, is a student-led event serving Atlantic Canada and beyond, with a focus on showcasing student achievement and demonstrating opportunities for aspiring chemists. The convention comprises several events such as keynote speakers, an undergraduate poster session, and workshops.

This year's host for ChemCon is Dalhousie University. Established in 1818, Dalhousie University has grown to become one of the largest post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada offering course options from both the arts and the sciences and their respective post-graduate programs. Dal offers students many opportunities such as participation in research, student politics (in the form of a student union), and athletics.

Conference Theme

Each ChemCon event has a specific theme. This year ChemCon 2023 focuses on diversity in Chemistry. Our mission is to uplift the voices and experiences of underrepresented groups and showcase students and educators that are working toward creating a more accessible future. Having a diverse, equitable and inclusive scientific community ensures that people of all backgrounds can participate in science and contribute their unique experiences and perspective. The future of scientific innovation is fostered through equity, diversity, and inclusion.
