Nevis is the smaller of the two islands of St Kitts Nevis, with a population of around 11,000. The language of the island is English, and the currency of the Federation is Eastern Caribbean Dollars (1 USD = 2.67 ECD), though American dollars are often used by tourists directly in tourist venues. ATMs are available across the island at banks and some retail outlets. Credit cards can be used, though having cash on hand is helpful.

Electrical outlets are North American (120 v). British and European travellers should bring adapters. The time zone is Atlantic Standard Time.

Charlestown is the capital of Nevis and its largest community. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. There are no stoplights on Nevis. There are few sidewalks outside Charlestown, and drivers and pedestrians share the road with sheep, goats, donkeys and monkeys.

Tap water is quite safe and drinkable, through there is plenty of bottled spring water. There is a hospital in Charlestown. Standard vaccines for the northern Caribbean are recommended (Hep A and B, Typhoid). There are several mosquito-borne diseases (Dengue, etc.), so the use of a repellent and precautions to avoid mosquitoes is generally recommended.
